caulking cages

lele Jun 07, 2006 06:34 PM

First time ever I have had an ant problem. I have them in the kitchen for one month every year at exactly this time - in the kitchen. Well, I caulked the sink, drawers - everywhere I saw an ant (it's the tiny little "crazy" ones that seem to have no direction). It seemed to work pretty well.

Then, I had those same $%^&^&*()ing critters in the office (room directly above kitchen where most of critters are housed. UGH! Well, I just pulled Cyrus' cage apart, killed a bunch, but knew they were going into the channels of the screening. Without thinking, I caulked the sh*t out of them! Uh-oh...probably should have used aquarium silicone, this stuff has all sorts of crap in it. Once it is dried is it OK? I can peel it all off tomorrow (as it is he has no cage to sleep in tonight so he will finally get his wish and snooze on his jungle gym).

what do you think? I linked to the product below. it is pouring rain out tonight so I suppose I could just let it get washed before it dries - ugh - what a pain in the butt.

I have to put him back in today. He is on his gym and spent the night in a 2x2 rearing cage that I had free.

I think as long as it doesn't have the mold inhibitors in it the cured stuff should be safe. After all, it is supposed to seal cracks and it could not do that if it is porus and emitting fumes.

Ditto, as long as it is dry and not emitting fumes, I think you are good.

Lele, IF you have an ant problem why do you not put some of the terro brand liquid bait outside his cage to attract them out, then let them bring it back to the nest and let them die?

went to HD the day after I posted this and found the Terro product - I love it!! The ants really swarm to it! I had one in the bottom of the cage, out of Cyrus' way, but then thought of the free range crickets eating it, then him eating them - yikes! So I have them all out of the cage. thanks!
