Unusually colored baby toad

b3finga Jun 08, 2006 03:33 AM

Today I found about 25 or 30 toads in my backyard here in TN. All of them except for one look normal. One of the babys is bright orange/red. I was just wondering if this is normal, because I've never seen one like it. I'm also curious to see if it keeps this bright coloration. I've attached a pic of it and some of its siblings and another pic of a big toad that was in the same general area that I found the babys. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Adam

The larger ones looks definitly like an Eastern American Toad. They do sometimes have a brick-red coloration so I'm guessing that may be what the toadlets are. Very adorible babies too.
Either an american toad (Bufo americanus) or an Eastern American toad(Bufo americanus americanus) is my main guess.
