okreptilerescue Jun 08, 2006 11:31 AM

I live in Oklahoma and i love going to the shows we have here. we rarely have more than 15 or 20 vendors. I was wondering if someone could tell me if there was a HUGE show anywhere nearby. I can go to all bordering states- texas, colorado, missouri, arkansas, kansas, etc... I figure texas will have a big one but i dont know anything about it. could someone thats been to a big show please give me some info. :D
thanks
Beth

I've had the same problem. I was in Tulsa for the last 4 years. The biggest one I know of that I've personally been to is in Kansas City twice a year. The next one is on the 9th of September (I think). I've heard about some in Texas, but I've never been to them.

I don't know all the shows in the area, but the biggest show in Texas is the East Texas Herp Society Expo. This year it is September 8-10. Check out their website for more info - http://www.eths.org/html/expo2006.htm. It is a very big show, and many of the major breeders attend it.

The only downer to that show seems to be that the city is now enforcing its no snakes over 8 foot rule. That means you can't sell or display babies of those species either. That might put a damper on things, although I don't know who is going to enforce those rules.
Big boas and pythons are one thing, but are they going to restrict Honduran Milks, Beauty Snakes, Bullsnakes, Ratsnakes, etc. all of which have exceeded 8 feet in length? Are all Boa constrictors banned even though most populations from North and Central America don't get that big?

No doubt the 8 ft rule has hurt the ETHS show. I noticed this past year that Bob Clark wasn't there for the first time in the decade that I've been attending the show. That's not only a shame for python enthusiasts, but for reptile fans in general. He brought the only Aldabra's tortoises I've ever seen for sale, as well as the only albino redfoot tortoise that I've ever seen.
Still, there's no doubt that it's the best show in the region. It's well worth the 8 hour drive from OK. The only problem is they always have the expo on opening day of football season!
Cheers!
