So I went to Joshua Tree Sun night - battery died in Morongo Valley. Got it replaced and made it to the park @ 7:30.
Did not plan on spending the night but since we did not get much time to look around Sun (although we stayed out until 11pm) my girlfriend and I ended up sleeping in my car.
Woke up @ 6am to got out before the heat set in. We stayed in Hidden Valley and started @ Barker Dam and exited out the south end of the park.
Lots of common sideblotched, whiptails and spiny lizards. Saw 1 Blunt nosed leopard lizard in the middle of the road on the black stripe between two yellow lines (had to put it in reverse for this guy) 1 chuckwalla and zebra tailed.
Saw a few white lizards that blended in with the sand but was unable to get close enough to ID - Mojave fringe toed? Does anyone know if there are Great Basin collared lizards in this area? Thought I saw one.
No DHL's although there were alot of ants and loose sand in the north entrance before the southern turnoff and thought I was going to find one here, but we got there when the sun was just going down. Also no desert tortoise sighting we were so hoping & stopping often to see. Lots of cyotes and even got up and personnel with a bat and raven.
Went diving in Laguna Beach on Friday and Catalina on Sat - One of the best dives ever! Great trip and good break from NorCal scenery. Monday viewed the desert, ocean and wetlands - Only in CA!!!
