Yellow snout on black rat

the nerve Jul 31, 2003 09:33 PM

My albino black rat has a yellowish coloration on the tip of her snout. I was wondering what this could be. Normal coloration? Infection? From rubbing her nose on the sides of her cage? There is no swelling and it doesn't seem to affect her adversely. I could post a picture later if someone requests it.

Thanks,
Andy

It's not unusual at all for albino black rats and other closely related albino rats to show yellow on their nose, chin, neck, etc. as they mature. My albino black rat has a little yellow...my albino "greenish" rat (black X yellow intergrade) has a lot of yellow. If it looks like the basic color of the snake and not something else I would not worry at all. You could post pics if you are unsure, but it sounds pretty normal. Enjoy! Great animals! Duffy
