Good adult ball racks?

RyanT Jun 08, 2006 03:28 PM

I need to get a new rack for some adult females. The only good ones I see right now are AP and RBI. I saw someone selling nice models a few months ago for like $300 for a 4-tier but can't find those anywhere now. Can anyone recommend who I should go with? Thanks a lot for any suggestions. Ryan.

BYOR LOL build your own rack!! it is very easy. I had home depot make all my cuts and spent 1/4 of what the racks cost retail!!!

good luck

I have absolutely no patience for that stuff. It's way more worth it to me to just buy one then to have to build it. I even screwed up my economy AP rack that had to be put together when it came. Screws popping through the wood, stripped. Total mess. I'm pathetic when it comes to anything like that and I just end up breaking it more when it pisses me off. Haha.

Find a friend who is good at building things, ask him to built it for you, pay for all the wood, etc. and buy him a case of beer for his work. (unles of course he is too young or doesn't drink, then buy whatever he enjoys)

HerpEnclosures makes a tank of a rack...really really thick PVC material, perfectly machined. The cost however per tub, is almost equal to that of Freedom Breeder.

I've got a few AP racks...very good value!

Ryan:

I purchased a Vision rack for my large female ball pythons a while back. I really like it.

Here is a photo of it.

had some nice looking CB70 racks at a recent show I attended. They hold 4 tubs and you can stack them. They have two strips of 3" (I think) heat tape and looked like they were made well.

I just went with AP. I got one from them last year that's perfect and they are a great value, so it's taken care of. Should be here in about 3 weeks. Thanks for the help. Ryan.

I have the racks from Neil Golli and I absolutely love them...

Highly reccomended, and unbeatable prices.

in my opinion is best for Royal Pythons. The new Vision racks are amazing but they are to open and for Royal Pythons they might feel like they can not hide. This is only my opinion. Regardless the choice of racks is impressive and fun.

Boaplile racks don't have enough ventilation in my opinion, the gap is to close, I have 2 Rubbermaid 28 qt racks (the old flimsy style with the thin plastic) and a monster rack and all 3 have clearance issues, it makes no sence to me to have the tubs "dragging" when your trying to pull them out, obviously based on the size of the tubs they are intended for medium sized animals and not babies so why would you not design them with an adequate gap for proper ventilation??? Poor ventilation isn't healthly for them at all.. Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles..

Drill air holes in the tubs, easy and effective.

Well since I have been in this field for over 10 years now I would think that it is safe to assume I already know about drilling holes in the tubs.. Regardless the tubs should NOT be in the racks so tight that they drag , there is nothing to gain by having next to zero clearance, it's poor designing in my book. Besides if you had the proper gap there is no need to drill holes at all... I have other racks that do just fine without drilling anything, when you have a 3/16" gap it takes the place of ALOT of holes.. Next time your at a show look at how some of the higher quality racks are built , they don't drill holes nor do they need them (unless you really want to put your own holes in them, that's a personal choice not a requirement on the good racks). You seem fixated for some reason on this topic of Boaphile. Brain Sharp and others like myself use the NEW BOAPHILE RACKS and they are just fine. I did not say ONLY BOAPHILE RACKS if you read my posts. I have been in this business since 93" and I also have a pretty good idea about racks. Here is the juice, buy what you like.

Perhaps the NEW style racks are better (wonder why they had to redesign them if they are so good , LOL), I agree buy what you like from who you like.. In my experience with Boaphile racks they are not something I would buy again , abd that's just my opinion.. Herp Enclosure racks or even Animal Plastics racks work better for me.. I don't sell any of them so it makes no difference to me! However 10 years of housing and breeding strictly high end Ball Pythons may mean something to somebody! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles..

RoyalVariations- Jun 13, 2006 02:37 PM

Yes I agree. My many years of experience with Ball Pythons also makes me aware of the quality of cages. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am "very picky". Perhaps the new racks from Boaphile are much better. I like mine but that in know way means that it is the only cage I would purchase but they are pretty darn good quality.
