Irian Jayan or Jungle Carpet??

z3speed4me Jun 08, 2006 03:59 PM

Hey everyone...just got a snake a couple days ago...
the pet shop put it down as a jungle carpet on the receipt, but i dont know if its a jungle carpet or a irian jayan, here are some pics, can you guys tell me what kind it is??

tank is pretty big, but doesnt seem to mind, ive read a lot of these snakes dont like large enclosures when they are hatchlings, but this one seems to like the space...
quick question though, day temp is like 87ish, night is 75ish, is that too much of a difference??

i know they are nocturnal, so it kinda just hangs out in a corner by the heat lamp during the day, and at night time when the lights are off i can hear it goin all over and exploring the tank

took the first meal monday real fast, it was a thawed out fuzzy mouse, but i want to move it to rats soon for monetary purposes when its older

hasnt bit yet, is very docile, runs away a lot and gets kinda defensive when i go to pick it up, but is very calm once in my hands slithering all over the place

so basically here are some quick pics i took, i just want to know what species it is...and any extra comments would be appreciated thanks!!!

I would guess an IJ but it’s to young to be sure. The first is my 04 IJ and the second is my 04 JCP.

IJ as far as I can tell. They are some what variable some have more contrast than others. Most are dull red masked as juveniles. This one looks like it may be just changing from red to a more adult color. They tend to change way into full adults.

The Jungles are dull as juveniles and get yellow in the light areas and real dark in the dark areas. IJ's get lighter all over and have more colors in the pattern amd never get any of the black that the Jungels get.

You will know for sure in about three or four months.
