Hmmmm...which should I choose?

coluberking25 Jun 08, 2006 07:34 PM

OK here's the deal. I plan on getting a male for my female cal king, who is banded. Should I breed her to a striped or an albino? I'm leaning towards striped. Just would appreciate some thoughts. Thanks.

PS-I plan on buying a hatchling so I can grow him myself and so I have time to let my female cal king grow. She seems to be no where near 36 inches and I got her in October 2002. Is this ok? I'll get pictures later

What do you mean by "they'd look the same"? You mean I'd just get banded babies? Or still a combo of striped, banded, and aberrant ones?

If you have a normal banded female and you breed her to a normal striped male. You will get all normal offspring. The pattern is not an exact science. Striping is somewhat dominant to banded but often aberants result.

If you breed a striped albino to your normal banded female. You will get all normal looking babies. They will be heterozygous for albino but they will look just like the offspring described above.
