Great Basin Desert CA - NV

Fieldnotes Jun 09, 2006 12:54 AM

Took a trip to the Great Basin with hopes of photographing a Great Basin Rattler and see what might be creeping about. Although I didn’t find all the animals I hoped too, I had a great trip. The Great Basin is an awesome place and I’m looking forwarding to another adventure… Anyone interested in splitting gas(?) Pictures in order of discovery.

Great Basin Spadefoot at 6500 ft in Mono County

Outcrop, Adobe Valley... Sagebrush lizards everywhere, but no snakes spotted. Flipping one rock contained practically a dozen sagebrush lizards. I was amazed not to spot a single snake, with such an incredible amount of food running about.

Western Rattler, Mono County I suspect it is a mitchellii crossbreed (any thoughts?) Unfortuantley this snake, along with gopher snakes were struck down by a truck proceeding me. BUMMER!!
