please keep in mind i am not new to the whole gecko thing... back in late april i bought a male leopard gecko just above 70 grams.. he doesnt seem to have a big appetite and seems to be hitting the calcium bowl a little hard lately... since ive had him i've only witnessed him eat one cricket thats all...his temps are currently 86-88 in the hot spot and about 84ish ambient....he has a toilet paper hide...a planter with a side entrence ..as well as a water, calcium, and meal work bowl...he dropped down to 66-68 grams and thinned just a little...just wondering what any one may have to say about this..am i missing something? Obviously he ate more than one cricket or he would have thinned out more but still it worries me...think its a internal parasite or organism overload?

Whats up 414!
I would recomend taking a fecal sample in to the vet if you suspect internal parasites. Also I would toss the paper roll and get him a nice rock hide or something he is totally covered in over the hotspot! Also a wet hide for when he feels he needs some more moisture for shedding or what not and maybe something on the cool end for him to hide in. Might make him feel a lil more at home and up his appetite.
Another thing i was going to say is that maybe he is just prefering the mealworms but depending on how many you are offering that still does not explain the drop in weight!

Like you said man your not new to this but just some things that would help out IMO as far as comfort.

Good luck man let us know what the outcome is!

My dumb....BEEP.... did not pay very much attention to your post. I still recomend the getting rid of the roll and replacing with a different hide and adding a humid hide but is the planter hide over the hotspot?? Which hide does he prefer? What im getting at is he over his UTH most of the time?

he went up two grams lets see whats next... i think part of it was his hide box didnt have enough moisture i also used some stimulap and crested gecko diet... if he doesnt show progress soon ill definately take a fecal but i think this could curve in a positive direction. He seemed to like the crested gecko diet.. i know its not for leopards but the cresteds go nuts over it then maybe it was crazy enough to work on my leopard... He also has a lot of interest in the calcium dish lately... i really hope it was something minor and he's getting over it. Any idea of what a fecal would cost? I think my dogs fecals ran close to 20 bucks

Yea with our vet i think its like 30 bucks. Glad to hear he is putting some weight back on.

The reason i asked where what hide is, is because it may be a case of him choosing the safer hide for comfort rather then spending the time he needs on the hotspot to stimulate his appetite!

Good luck man hope all goes well!

first i would highly recomend a larger enclosure mine is a little smaller than that and in a 20 gal tank and very happy. i'll try to post pics of it tomorrow. I personally prefer not to use the paper towels..neither one of ine ate well and they were very inactive when they were on them. i just moved my new baby from a 5 1/2 gallon tank t a 10 and the improvement in his eating and activity was incredible. not sure if you leave the crickets in ther but they may stress him out. I have a baby that is terrified of them and i believe it has a lot ot do with were I got her from they used to just leave a few running around in the tank and she may have gotten bit...I have talked to a lot of people and appearantly this is a problem with geckos so I never leave crickets in there after feeding anythin not eaten within an hour or so I take out. those are some lovely geckos though.
