mean dragon

beachbeardies Jun 09, 2006 05:20 AM

ok i have been meaning to ask about this for quite sometime but kinda held back to see if he would calm down a bit but he hasnt.

i got a yellow x normal male from a small breeder on kingsnake classifieds, (not naming who but if youd like to know send me a personal message) first of all the person sent me pics of this gorgeous super yellow male, then sent me a totally different dragon, then never responded to my emails about it. 2nd of all he is a very fiesty, mean dragon. he was like this when i got him at a young age. i got him at about 2 months max. he is about 6 months or so now and just hasnt calmed down. he lunges trying to bite me and anyone trying to handle him, always gapes his mouth and hisses, etc. he also does not get along with my female dragons. i tried putting him and my female together to see what he would do around another dragon and he tried to attack her, luckily i stopped him.
now i have done everything i know to do to try to calm him down. i left him alone to get used to his new home when i first got him, i tried handling him many time a day for weeks on end, etc. i just dont know what to do anymore. i have had fiesty dragons before that i have gotten to tame down but he is the worst one i have delt with.
ive been also trying to sell him as i am running out of room for males. i will make a good deal since he is the way he is, he goes for what i paid for him. anyone interested please let me know.
thanks

What kind of set-up is he in currently? I had one like this years ago and he did calm down when he matured, but it wasn't until a year of age. I would walk into the reptile room and he would immediately start "hunting" me!

One thing is the type of cage hes in. A lot of breeders do not raise thier dragons in glass tanks. If it was raised in a solid cage the glass could be frightining him. Try covering the back and both sides. If you put aquarium background on it try putting it on the inside( to get rid of the reflection).

It could just be a mean dragon. There are ecxeptions to the rule that all dragons are nice. Which is not the case at all. Just give him time and he may calm down a bit after he matures. I personally think its kinda cool to have a dragon like that. Cause maybe he would be the one out of the clutch to make it in the wild. Anyways good luck!

peace,
nate

thanks nate. i have been working my way to move all of my dragons out of all glass enclosures. i actually just posted a message asking anyone for cage building plans, since im not too creative.
and yea he maybe just the dragon that could make it in the wild. i dont mind him being so fiesty with me, i can handle that, i just wish he would breed with my females instead of attack them, hed be a nice breeder.
