Stains Around The Mouth

tbozzz Jun 09, 2006 09:05 AM

I have not posted a message in a while but I have a question that I just don't know a good answer to. My "sterling" has stains around his mouth from his food. The vet had told me to use Q-tips to wipe away the stains. I have done so numerous times with no results. Well, I should say that I have not had the results I was expecting. The stains come off of the chin area only which is giving me concern that maybe skin is coming off with the stains. I just find it to be odd that it is only being removed from that small area. I am not rubbing hard to where I would think some skin is being removed but it seems odd that it's only coming off there. So, my question is...is there a more effective way to remove the food stains from around his mouth?

I don't ever try to get those stains off. Our girl is 60lbs now, she's not going to allow me to try.
She loves to bathe & because she dunks her entire head in the water to drink these stains always wash off on their own so I just don't even worry about it.

Thanks for the response. Sterling is about a year old and doesn't quite shove his head in the water yet. He still depends on his soakings. I didn't think it was a big deal because they do not have anyone in the wild wiping their mouths for them but I always get paranoid when his vet tells me to do something.

Try usung a soft toothbrush to gently scrub around his mouth or anywhere else that needs it. Mine seem to love the feeling and it is very gentle.
