Worried about baby Gold Dust Day Geckos

wendysjungle Jun 09, 2006 04:28 PM

I have a pair of very young Gold Dust Day Geckos that I have had for about a month. I don't know their age when I got them, but they were about the size of my pinky finger. They have both grown to about ring-finger size (sorry, these are my best references), and have great color. However, one of them is definitely filling out much better than the other, who looks a little thin to me. He's not emaciated, but his spine is more visible than his buddy's, and when he breathes hard I can see his ribs slightly on the inhale. He's very bright-eyed and active, and color looks equally bright on both. Is it normal that some babies fill out faster than others, or should I be concerned about this?

Do you have them together in the same cage? If so you may have a case of dominant and submissive behavior. You should separate them and the thinner one will most likely thrive again. Also, when you separate, watch the thinner one when you're feeding to make sure he is eating again.
