Oxyrhopus Jun 09, 2006 05:58 PM

Check out this giant of a snake I have here. It looks like it can swallow a rabbit.

Any particular reason the species name is "sulfurus"...?

I can warrant a guess, but if that was the snake's most distinguishing characteristic I'm not sure anyone would want to keep one.

They have yellow belly scales.

Highly variable. You may wish to search out some of the photos Bill Reid, AKA sighthunter, has posted to the forum of the Pseustes sulfurus residing within his collection. Once you see an above average or exceptional specimen, you will fully understand the name...

Best regards,

Jeff

Ah...

I thought it might be that this particular variety of snake was a particularly heinous musker.

Is there a picture of the snake in the original post with an object for scale? e.g. ruler, dollar bill, &c?
