An unconventional way to save a severed toe....

RickSch Jul 31, 2003 10:32 PM

---The young iguana I recently took in had been caged with a larger male. The male had bitten the little one repeatedly along his back which left many sores. Also, one of my rescue's toes had been almost cut off. The toe was dangling and had been cut to the bone. I did not really want to amputate the toe if I could avoid it. I had an idea and it worked quite well. I held the toe up and put it back in the normal position, applied superglue around the toe to hold the skin together and held it in place until it dried. The toe is now completely healthy although it does not appear to have any movement yet. I hope this helps someone else.

Pretty ingenious! How long ago was this? No infections or anything?

what if the glue infects the blood stream and kills the ig, I think he would have been better off without the toe...IMO...Lyn

I have a similar situation and am wondering if the new liquid bandaid would work. So far the ig has cooperated by reducing her climbing and the nearly severed toe seems to be healing.
