My first memory of a bearded dragon actually was negative!

I was at a local pet store and they had one in a little ten gallon tank with some assorted lizards. It didnt look that great and For some reason was very ugly to me. Who knew i would have so many and they would be my favorite.

Ive been working with dragons and breeding them for over ten years! wow doesnt seem that long but man A freaking decade! lol, And Im only 22

anyone else wanna share?

Well, what brought me into getting a dragon is rather long. The short story is below:

When I was young,I dreamed I went to a petstore, saw this small silvery shimmering winged dragon (like a typical mythological dragon but with four limbs, not two) in a glass tank. It was priced at $75 in the dream. I remember I really wanted to buy it, as I have always loved dragons.

Well, many years after that dream, in fact i had pretty much forgotten in, I decided I wanted a lizard for a pet. At the time I was staying with my folks, money situation made it more feasible to stay at my parents. I had a good job and wanted to move out and once I did,I wanted to get a green iguana. So, I decided to read everything I can about green iguanas. After doing that, I decided a green iguana would not make a good first reptile for me. I still want to get one but decided it would be something I would get in the future.

Somehow during my research of green iguanas I came across the name 'bearded dragon'. Curious, I looked into these lizards. Decided this was the perfect beginner reptile for me. I spent the next 6-8 months reading everything I could find about bearded dragons, found Kingsnake.ca (and later Kingsnake.com as well). When I moved out, found a breeder who was relatively local (well, if you call a 5 hour drive local) and purchased my first bearded dragon. I remembered my dream when I learned about bearded dragons and though the one I did buy didn't have wings, wasn't silver nor did it shimmer in the light, but it did cost me $10 less than the dragon in my dream. Well, considering the gas I used up to get the dragon, it cost me closer to $100 but compared to the prices in the local petstores, it was a real deal.

Though I do not own that dragon anymore, I enjoyed her for the two years I was her owner. Due to moving I had to sell her and haven't yet purchased a new bearded dragon.

the first time i saw bearded dragons was about 4 1/2 years ago with my girlfriend erica, who is now my fiance. i thought they were the coolest lizard i had ever seen. erica fell in love with them instantly. i had been begging her let me get a snake in the future but she is deathly afraid of them. i had an iguana and an anole back when i was about 10 years old, ive had snakes before, and always been interested in reptiles. anyways, me and erica moved in together after she graduated highschool in 2003 and we went to the petstore and got our first pair of baby dragons. the store we bought them from is huge where we live. well unknown to us at the time, they arent very good of taking care of their reptiles. we named them pebbles and bam bam. pebbles is a healthy breeder for us still today. bam bam unfortunately died 5 months after we got them. had mbd from the day we got him and ened up dying. he was half the size of pebbles when he died. we got another male from a different store that we became very familiar with, and he is pebbles new girl, her name is pebbles.

we were never planning to do anything with breeding until i read alot of about it and we decided to give it a try. sure as new breeders we made our mistakes and learned from them. i have alot of people to thank on this forum for your tips and help, so everyone, thank you.

we eventually added more dragons to our colony and we have been breeding steady since early 2005. i know everyone and their brother out there is breeding any dragon they can. we are not trying to be one of those people. our mission is to become a well known BD breeder. we are not in it for the profit at all, we all know its not there anymore really. we sell our dragons at a price that can let us put it right back into our project. we also would like to find other breeders to trade with to add different color morphs to each others colonys. as of right now we have one breeding female (pebbles) a future breeder female (roxy) and 2 male breeders (dino and lucifer). we are also about to add a new female from mystical dragons. she is an offspring of alakazamm and kiaha.

so there is our story, im sorry its so long.

The first time I saw a bearded dragon when I went to a local reptile museum. Since then it has closed. Anyway when I saw the bearded dragon and was able to hold it. I went home and wanted one so I did research and read a few books. Then I bought my first beardie Simon. I wasn't sure at first how to tell if it was a male or a female but turns out simon was a female. I had her 8 yrs she was great. When she passed I didn't want to get another with the thought of replacing her. But 2 yrs later I wanted one so bad I missed having one. So I drove 3 hrs away and bought a baby beardie (Nov 2005) 2 weeks after that I was at a petstore buying crix and stuff and a family came in and didnt want there beardie anymore and the petstore didnt want it back because he was an adult and he was missing part of his tail. The family mentioned they were going to let it loose then because there kids really didn't want it. We live in Long Island NY so the beardie wouldn't survive outside. I was really upset with the thought of that so I took him home with me right then. He's been happy ever since. Not sure how old he is but he has lots of reds in him. So now I have 2 beardies and a few other pets. But I love BD's. Thats my story hope it wasn't too long.

Hi Everyone, Great stories, keep them coming!

Here is my story. I am a Emergency Animal Care Provider. I do In Home care for all animals including wild and Exotic. The first time I saw a Beardie was when I got this emergency call over 8 years ago where this lizard was caught in a recliner chair and bleeding. I rushed over thinking it was a iggy or gecko and got to work. Making a long story shorter, after two hours I pull out this huge beautiful/colorful lizard, I asked what kind is it and they said a Beardie. Well I asked a lot of questions that day, This awesome lizard was so docile and even though he had to be in a lot of pain, he never bit me, but he did taste me! LOL! I thought that was so cool. So I started reading all I could on them and my friend in Germany exported my first pair- they are German Giants. Not very pretty but the male has Orange in him and the female is pastelish. I still have them and they are 5 and 6 years old and breeding. They have very colorful babies too. I then decided in 2001 that I wanted more color morphs and snow so now I have 24 beardies and lots of eggs and babies! I just love these sweet creatures. I also raise Leopard Geckos(my daughters project but since she is 12 I guess its mine too), and I was breeding Tortoises(but I sold my adults) until we move to our land in New Mexico. No matter what I will always have a beardie and I am sure most of you agree!
