Florida Residents keeping mugutis

ArctikPro Jun 10, 2006 12:01 AM

I was recently doing research on Eastern Indigos on the Florida Fish and Wildlife website(FWC.com) and I came across a paragraph that said: No person shall buy, sell, or posses for sale any Florida Pine snake (P.m.mugutis), nor shall any person possess more than one Florida pine snake, except that said restrictions shall not apply to amenalistic "albino" specimens. So, does this apply to the Leucistic specimens as well?

This subject has been discussed before. As the Florida Fish and Wildlife guidelines are written, the answer would be no. A leucistic snake is not an amel in my opinion. The final judge would be Paul Moler, our state herp biologist. Give him a call. I'm curious about his opinions on this. He considers the pines in Escambia county to be intergrades between logingi and mugitus. He told me that they are except from the one snake possession limit.
