Ants,they don't eat that kind?

I have seen this many times here,whats in that.How do they know?I had a HL years ago.If it walked by him,it was history.Is it possible they don't eat this or that ant for some reason?A little confused here.As I am walking here and there around the woods and fields, I see lots of different color/size ants.Can one be that different from the other.thanks, scott.
