breeding size for arizona mountain kings

ive got a 02 pair of arizona mountain kings . i know ive got at least a year or two to go buy im really curious the best age or size to start breeding . the little one are pigs , but only feed 3 pinks a week. im thinking of feeding a bit more . any suggestions welcome. thanks

And yours look very well fed. I wouldn't push them any harder with food. Feed them reasonably for 2 1/2 years and you will have adults ready to breed. I'm sure others may have had breedings at 1 1/2 years old but experience usually shows that an extra year is better for the female. So wait till Spring 2005.

...in past years I've taken as long as the 4th spring (3.5 year old females) before breeding some females. When I bred at 2.5 years of age (experience w/ 2 females), one female gave me only 2 fertile eggs and the other laid slugs bred to a fertile male. Note that Az Mtn's are long-lived snakes and waiting the extra year pays dividends. I have a male acquired as an wild-caught adult in 1988 still going strong (min 17-18 years old). Scott J.
