Shell "growth rings"

holy7cow Jun 10, 2006 10:56 PM

Hi,
I have a couple sulcatas that live in my fenced in yard for most of the year (I live in far south Florida).. anyway.. I noticed the shell seems to have two distinct colors .. one is a golden color and then along the base of this is a dark brown color.. it looks to me like the darker colored areas are the "recent growth" then eventually they fade on their own or get bleached out by the sun as new growth comes in behing them...is this right.. or am I just making up crazy ideas. The colors are especially noticable after soaking. Does this make sence..
Someone.. anyone?
thanks-

Yes it makes sense & it sounds normal.

They do seem to be darker where there is new growth. When they are large the majority of the color on them is a light sandy color.
