I sometimes visit the Domes (botanical garden type-things) in Milwaukee and they've recently added an educational center to their exhibits. They have a few animals in there, some of which are brought by people and then dropped off in one of the Domes to get rid of them (I once saw an iguana wandering the tropical dome). The Domes staff then "adopt" the animals, but due to budget cuts and probably a little bit of ignorance, they don't really give them ideal habitats. They have a three-toed box turtle someone ditched a few months ago, and she is living in what looks like a 15 gallon tank with only a daylight bulb and some plants in dirt. They also have some type of frog and a desert lizard, I can't remember the species but it's a sandy color and has a spiny, wide flat tail. This lizard's only light source is a white heat lamp. If anyone knows what sort of equipment they could use to improve their conditions, please let me know!! It makes me sad to see them all just sort of huddling in a corner. Anyone who has/knows about box turtles, please respond so I have a good idea of what to donate to help her out. Thanks!
