just hatched, now what?

Niquasi Jun 11, 2006 08:50 AM

I have some just hatched corns, and I am having a lot of trouble getting them to feed. My husband says give them hotdogs (haha). I've tried the smallest pinkies I could find, and tried putting them in a deli cup with the pink for a few hours. I've tried tease feeding them, tried feeding them just the heads.... still no luck. Their enclosures are set up with aspen bedding, upper 80's F on one side, lower 80's F on other side, plenty of hiding places (although they prefer under the water dish... as do my ball pythons and rosy boa...). Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
This is my first time with new hatchlings. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!
Niki

Have they shed yet? If not let them go till they do....
You also can try putting them in brown paper sandwich bags with live/thawed pinky overnight....this works great for me....
Good Luck...

I'm new at this too and I have the same sort of questions. I have hatchlings that are shedding and am trying to feed them pinkies. How often should I offer food if its refused? I don't want to stress them out but is daily right or every othere day till they eat? When should I get real concerned if they haven't eaten? I don't want to wait too long and cause problems ...could some one point us in the right direction for answers? What is step two if they won't eat? Any tricks? Any help is appreciated! Thanks

I'd try every 3-4 days, if you try more then that you will stress them out.
I prefer the brown paper sandwich bag for all baby corns that don't eat right away..

Mine have not shed, so I will wait a while. I went and got some brown paper bags today, and will try again soon. Thank you for your help!
