pregnant collard lizard

donnalee507 Jun 11, 2006 10:41 AM

Help,I have a collard lizard that is pregnant. She laid a egg almost 30 hrs ago. You can see that she has more. Is it normal for there to be so much time between egg laying? This is my first reptile breeding experience and I want to make sure that she is ok and all is going normally.

I would suggest to not disturb her too much. Does she have a nesting site? If she doesn't finish laying within the next day, & is lethargic, she may be egg-bound(dystocia). The situation can be life threatening. This would require a trip to a reptile vet.

Below is a link for some Collared lizard info, which may help re: nesting/egg-laying.

Thank you so much for replying. Yes, I made a nesting site. She seems fine. She just ate 3 crickets. I just didn't
think it was normal for there to be so much time between eggs. You can defiently see she has more to lay. I am going to try a reptile bedding (looks like good top soil with some peat moss) instead of the straight sand I have for the nest. I'll mix the two and see what happens.

Thank You!!!!!
