What is this?? bought as eyghptian racer

beladona Jun 11, 2006 10:50 AM

I bought this at a pet store as a racer. Iv'e been looking at pics and it is not an eyghptian racer. He has a really preety pattern that fades to and olive color tale. The pet store said it could be a rear fanged but I don't think it could be one. I bought him for 50.00. Please tell me if I got a bad or good deal.

That is Jan's Whipsnake (aka Jan's Desert Racer) (Coluber rhodorachis)

There are reports of that snake having a mildly toxic bite - .

You should be careful handling it until you find out more, and you won't find out more on the internet. You probably should go to a major library and try to track down that article.

This is the danger of buying unknown animals.

Here is a link to some pics of the Coluber rhodorachis.
To me they may or may not be what you have. You will have to evaluate them for yourself.

Also, my search confirmed that this specis can have a potentilly toxic bite. Please be careful!

i'll try not to get bit

was 50 dollares a good deal for that snake

That animal was not eating crickets.

It will probably eat lizards and small snakes. If you are lucky, it might eat small pre-killed rodents.

I don't know anything about your new snake, but to answer the question on your website, Rough Green Snakes max out at just under 4 feet.
