Snake lost 1 1/2 years now found!! Pics

LauraV Jun 11, 2006 02:08 PM

I was so stunned. My husbandwent out to have a cigarette in our front yard and saw a snake at the end of our drive near a street grate. He called me out (because he hates them) and low and behold it was a ball. Surprising, it looked familiar. I ran inside to check the pictures of my 50% het pied female that went missing over a year ago...it was actually her!! She survived the winter. Don't think she ate much as she was only 300g (she's an '04)..when I got her under a light to look her over, I notices she had earned several scars during her walkabout. Not just that, she actually developed a green wash. The only thing I can think of is maybe she was eating green anoles?? I would welcome any thoughts on the matter.
I do not have a belly shot from her before, but she was normal colored before.

Here she was (sorry if the pics are large):

Here she is now:

That's awesome, Laura!
Congratulations!
Maybe it was just a "coming of age" thing. You know, she left the tribe as a girl and returns as a woman...

I've found a couple others, but none after so long a time.

I had 2 kingsnakes escape about the same time 3 years ago. After about 6 months, they were found within a couple of days of each other. One was found outside when I was mowing the yard - lucky he didn't become blade fodder, and the second was found laying on top of my dresser. The one that was outside had grown twice the size of the other, which hadn't grown at all. Lucky they didn't find each other in all that time, or one would have eaten the other. But, so neat to have found them both in places I hadn't expected within a couple of days of each other.

I had a leopard gecko my youngest daughter let loose (it dropped it's tail, bit her, and escaped...my husband screams, "there's a huge reptile that darted under the sofa...must be a...a... bearded dragon!" I move the sofa, and here is this tiny 40g leopard gecko, maybe 4-5 inches, since it had lost it's tail. Too funny! Some "huge" reptile!!

Now, if we can only find the two baby colubrids )one corn and one king) that my eldest daughter lost a year ago. Wouldn't think it possible...but, who knows? Since I found the Ball after so long, I won't consider it impossible anymore.

Ya know, I can see where she has lost weight, but she doesn't look bad at all. Whatever she ate (or didn't eat) it seems she took pretty good care of herself. At least she stayed away from roving killer Fidos You guys live in Houston, right? I grew up there and the temps would be just about perfect most of the year, except the winters can get nippy at times. She must have found a good place to hole up....probably in your garage Anyway, I'm glad she's back in the fold and enjoying a juicy rodent!!

Well, very near Houston. Between Houston and Sugar Land, in Fort Bend County.

Temps perfect here?? Sigh...maybe for her...not for me...I spent too many years in Alaska to ever get used to the frying pan...I get so hot, I just want to sit in my chair, in front of a fan, with the AC on and just melt.

She's lucky she didn't come across my own Fido's, as I have three mastiffs. She did get some scarring, I have to wonder if the neighbor's cat thought she was a neat play thing. Then again, the construction that sent the mice into our garage last year also sent rats into our roof..she may have stumbled across one of those rats. Poor thing.

I never expected to see her again. Almost beyond reason to think that I would. I have to wonder if she didn't prefer life the way she had it...but, I'm sure it would not have ended well for her, and as she was in the street, the ending probably would have come really swiftly.
