Rearrange the cage?

wellbe1 Jun 11, 2006 02:36 PM

Is it good/ok to rearrange the cage every so often? I have a large cage and I like to change it up from time to time.

In my own opinion, I think rearranging his enclosure puts a lot of stress on the chameleon. It's tough enough for a chameleon to move from its baby to its adult enclosure and become acclimated, and shuffling things around in his cage could possibly leave him in disarray.

I know my chameleon has a daily routine- a spot for basking, for eating, for drinking and for sleeping. Once they have become accustomed to their surroundings I'd leave it be. It's totally your decision though...that's just my say in it...

Chams rely on a very detailed spatial memory to recognize what is safe turf. It can disorient one to move things around. But, some chams may not be as bothered. It may come down to how stressy your individual cham happens to be. Once you have a setup that seems to work well for you and your cham why change it? If you want to change the cage (its really for your benefit not the cham's), do little things, don't do it very often (maybe at the change of seasons when their natural habitat might go through some change anyway), and be ready for signs of stress.
