Snake found after 1 1/2 years! Pics

LauraV Jun 11, 2006 02:54 PM

I was so stunned. My husband went out to have a cigarette in our front yard and saw a snake at the end of our drive near a street grate. He called me out (because he hates them) and told me I'd better get my gloves (which, of course, I didn't do) because it could be poisonous... low and behold it was a ball. Surprising, it looked familiar. I ran inside to check the pictures of my 50% het pied female that went missing over a year ago...it was actually her!! She survived the winter. Don't think she ate much as she was only 300g (she's an '04)..when I got her under a light to look her over, I notices she had earned several scars during her walkabout. Not just that, she actually developed a green wash. The only thing I can think of is maybe she was eating green anoles?? I would welcome any thoughts on the matter.
I do not have a belly shot from her before, but she was normal colored before.

Here she was (sorry if the pics are large):

Here she is now:

To find her after all this time. I bet you're happy to see her!
The green may be grass stains or maybe stains from algae in the drain. You'll know better after her next shed, I'm sure!

Holy Mackeral!! That's pretty incredible. Don't have a clue about the color change, but it's certainly noticable.

And yes, there is some grass, but stains tend to be random with darker/lighter portions, but she has complete, total body coverage. I would think it do to something she ingested. I know we have toads, and anoles, and house geckos, but I'm not sure what else is about...almost like she ingested something who dined on green chlorophyll, or perhaps drank something with a chemical in it...either way, grass stains, chemical, or diet, it should dissipate with time, allowing her normal color to come back through, now that she is back in a stable enviroment.

She finally took a live rat pup. She refused for some time, so I was worried she developed a liking for whatever she had been eating...or that she had gone too long without eating and lost the desire to. Now, at least, I can rest easy about that.

fresh clipped grass would give her that tinge. That would be my guess.

congrats! Have you taken her to the vet yet to make sure that she didn't pick up anything on her walk about?

She's been treated on the outside, though I saw nothing there, all animals are treated coming into or going out of my home.

She has eaten for me, when I collect her stool sample, that will be taken in. I'm hoping to get a stool sample before the rat pup comes out, I'd like to know what she's been eating (if the vet can even tell).

Hey I just saw your logo in your signature and realized who you are. I bought a male 50% het clown from you last summer. He is doing great and I'm getting him a 100% het girl this summer. Congratulations again on finding your runaway.
