Locale question................

vichris Jun 11, 2006 04:00 PM

I know this is probably a better question for the alterna forum but I'm interested in what you guys think. I have a pair of River rd. alterna that I feel very confident about in regards to locale. (I trust the breeders/sellers).

I have another female alterna that I purchased as a River rd but I do not have that same sense of confidence as far as locale. I bought her at a herp show last fall from a breeder I didn't know. It's not that I distrust him it's that I don't know him. In addition she doesn't look like most other river rd alterna I've seen. She is definately more of an alterna phase but does exhibit some blair's features too. She is a great looking grey band. I'd take some pics but she is laying eggs as I type this. I'll post some pics later.

Here's my question. Should I advertise the hatchlings as River rd. or non-locale? I do have some eggs incubating now from the other river rd. female that I have full confidence in.

Here's the pair of river rd's I trust.

Hey, if it were me, and this is just my opinion, I would only call 'em River roads if you caught them or absolutely personally know the breeder and trust him/her. i would call 'em generic and sell 'em to those who just want an alterna. I read your post in the gb forum and I agree with the advice given there. If you told me they were r.r.'s i would believe you because of your good rep and your awesome Thayeri, but if I was wanting R.R,'s specifically I might want you to totally persuade me and if you couldn't satisfy my want, I would look elsewhere. I trust you man, but if in doubt you must label accordingly or tell the buyer of your suspicions. My .02 and I'll take a pair of those posted!!!!!! Still looking for my w.c. pair, lol!

The female in question just got finished laying 9 good eggs so I took a couple of quick pics. I just posted these over on the GB forum so I'll post them here too.

The male is from Tim Gebhart @ Vivid so he's got great credentials (River rd., big hill). My female that I am sure is River rd is from Rich Gassaway out of Flagstaff AZ. He's not as well known but he's as trustworthy as the day is long. Most of the breeders in AZ, CA, CO, and NM know him well. I could go on about him but suffice it to say I completely trust him and his stock.

This female though is not typical of RR but the guy had her advertised as one and I felt confident enough at the time to buy her. I got her at a herp show so I was able to spend some time getting a good look at her. I still do feel like she is what he said she was but would like some 2nd and 3rd opinions.

What do you think?

The 4 Zee got last year were from Langtry and are the only w.c. I have seen in person. Not like yours, more blairs with a few intermediates, I would p.m. Joe Forks and Troy Hibbits and ask. All I can say is DANG! You got graybands!!! And I want to see them pups when they hatch! Congrats!
