Still soaking......

phiber_optikx Jun 11, 2006 08:43 PM

Molly shed and her skin looked good as new. So I went ahead and put in a smaller water dish that is/I thought was too small for her to soak in. Well I got home today and she had squeezed herself into it. So I drained the bowl so that there was only about 1/2" of water in it thinking he would not soak if there wasn't an adequate amount to soak in. Well I woke up this morning and she had squeezed herself back into the bowl. So I completely took it out again. What could be causing this? She is mite free, and doesn't have any stuck shed or wounds, I thought it may have been linked to her temps.... it is about 85 in her cage. But she was caught localy and it has been about 95 here the past few days. So I know she is used to these temps.... ANY suggestions? Thanks

If it wants to soak, let it soak. And just because the temp in your neck of the woods gets to 95 does not mean that a snake can't find a MUCH cooler spot (and a place to soak). If my snakes want to soak, I let them soak. What the heck. Duffy

Is there a cooler place to put your snake? My non heat tolerant snakes stay close to the floor of my room.If your worried about scale rot just put the water bowl in every 3 days.

Like I said I have completely taken away her water. She is already on the floor in a 106 qt. rubbermaid. i am moving Friday and sh will be in a garage with a window unit set to a thermostat so it should be plenty cool for her. Hopefully that will help.

I caught a small-ish black rat a few weeks ago, and it looked pretty rough. It was under a board in some soupy mud. Since I've had this snake, it's been looking worse and worse, and I keep finding it in the water bowl all balled up like a defensive ball python with it's head underwater like it's got a suicidal wish or something. I checked her last night and she looked like total crap, she's practically coming apart at the seams, so I pulled her water bowl out and I'll see how she looks in a few days.
