I have heard several stories about the Phantom Boa, One was that it was born in a Normal Central American Litter, and that its a result of a HoggxColombian Breeding? Do you know the real history behind it? Really Beautiful... Thanks for sharing updated pics...

Of course I know the history, it was born here Its grandparents were a solid black central american male and female "pet shop boa". About a quarter of offspring looked "funky". They were pewter and lavender colored. A friend picked up a few of the strange looking babies. During installation of all new caging, the boas were placed together in one enclosure. Not much worry about breeding since the female was only 5' long. Shortly after, I got the female from him. And one night a pile of babies were crawling around her cage. Since I keep very meticulous records, we were able to track it back to that particular weekend.

This was the only one in the litter to look like this. But it certainly was not a normal looking litter. Half of the offspring were silver with virtually solid black tails (and remain so today) and the other half have so much peach and sherbert color that they put many pastels to shame. I still have 4 of the siblings.

I have had people ask me if he was a cross with nice looking hogg. But he is either pure central american or a CA/colombian mutt. No telling what the "pet shop boa" was. I was just told it looked like a normal boa. His mother is still only 5 long and seems that sheis full grown. He is a year and about 2' long. It should prove interesting.

Well Hello B. W.

I did not know you had posted the history until after my first post...anyway...I would say you have a great shot at that boa being het for Blood...of course that is only my opinion...but it looks that way to me...Also I would be thinking T positive as well. Keep us posted...and could you post some sibling pics? Thanks Andy Federico

come up with something like it "has a chance of being het for blood"?

Please explain why you would make a statement like this.

Hey Chris...I just saw your site link....Bloody leopards ....I think you may be able to help with the possiblities of his boa.....what have you found as characteristics of hets in the bloods and the leopards??? Are those black eyes anything? thanks Andy

speculate or jump to conclusions on this page, as I know that we have some newbies, and like all of us at 1 time or another, tend to be impressionable. So we should call it what it is, until it isn't.....you know?

I know of no "tell tale" signs of het bloods, and the Het leopards are still up for debate. If I ever produce anything from my boas, I would be more than happy to share my knowledge with the forum. Until then, anything I say would just be speculation and add to the confusion.

Shouldnt you be taking more pictures of those hypo litters, so we can tell you what we think?

I don't really get into morphs much. I know the basic ones and I know when something pops out that really doesn't fit any existing catagory. I think this guy technically falls under the definition of a Hypo. But any input is welcome.

Hey BW...do any of the siblings have those dark eyes? That boa reminds me of a Mocha coffee!! Can you post pics of the siblings or parents? Thanks Andy

Here is the mother. It doesn't really show her pewter color as it is on the sides.

Once I put them in full sun for photos some burnt color showed through. CA-3 and CA-4 were the dark tailed silver ones. Until they got in the sun, they looked like Type IIs. Full sun was making some odd photos. The coloring seemed to change depending on which angle I was at. I think I still have CA-3. The double white spots down the tail always struck me as odd. One of them is about to shed, but I should be able to get a shot of the dark tail one tonight (if he cooperates, he thinks he's a mamba).

by the progression of their ontogenetic color change (with the first picture) I would say the unknown sire "Normal Pet Store Boa" was Colombian. That color spectrum doesn't exist in Central American locales.

PanamaRed Jun 12, 2006 11:53 AM

Looks godd i think if it proves genetic it should be a great addition to the boa morphs.
