Chronic shedding problem...need advice..

Kevin_Ivens Jun 12, 2006 10:21 AM

I bought a boa just over a month ago. She is a late 05 animal. When i received her, she had a respiratory infection. I"ve been nursing her back to health with little success. The weird thing is, her sheds have been at 2 week intervals. She is on her 3rd shed right now. She does eat however.

Does anyone have an idea as to what her problem may be. Could this chronic shedding be correlated to an illness that would also induce a respiratory problem??

Her set up, temps, and humidity are perfect. I'm considering administering tylan...but want to be sure there's nothing i'm missing.

She is a beautiful snake, and I would love for her to get well so i can introduce her to my collection.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

The reason why she is shedding so much IS because she is sick. My advice would be take her to a qualified vet so that they can administer the medication. I wouldn't risk giving it yourself......

Good luck.

A possible cause is vitamin A deficiency. Both skin problems and a susceptability to respiratory ailments are in the list of symptoms.

I had a corn snake that was shedding every two weeks. It cut back to 4-6 weeks after a couple of treatments with a bird liquid multiple vitamin from the local pet store.
