Is my ball python gravid ??

pichereptiles Jun 12, 2006 12:01 PM

I purchased a female ball python online and recieved her on 4/28/06. She weighed in at 1726 grams. I fed her a Pre killed rat about a week after I got her and she ate it no problem. She immedietly went into a shed after that 1st meal, so I figured okay a normal shed. A few days after she shed I found her laying on her back around her water dish. Her head and a 1/4 of her body was still right side up. She looked just like the picture on page 89 of Kevins book. Was she developing follicles?? If she is gravid, I should find eggs 27-35 days after that shed if that was in fact a pre lay shed. She shed on 5/11/06 so it has been about 30 days. She is acting normal, I have her in a lay box she is coiled up under a pile of moss.

Do you think she was shipped to me gravid??
Is there any other reason why she would of been laying upside down like that??

Help!

Thanks

they lay like that frequently.

most of the time we just don't see it.

I have seen juveniles(virgins) and males do it many times.

maybe its just comfortable for them sometimes.

also, I have never seen a female eat right before post ov shed.

not saying it couldn't happen just unlikely.
