inbreeding?

forkit Jun 12, 2006 04:04 PM

its not uncommon for dog, cat, and snake breeders to inbreed their animals to produce a certain trait. that said, how does it effect the animals? in ball pythons, does it effect cognitive ability or growth like it might in other animals? logic tells us that inbreeding and repeating genes increases the chance of mutation, good & bad. what are your experiences with inbreeding balls? does it make any difference? or only maybe after more than one inbreeding?

kink backs in caramels and cleft lips in black pastels? Aren't these defects increased through inbreeding?
