O/T Could use some advice baby gecko

redoaksblues Jun 12, 2006 05:05 PM

I took in a baby rescue gecko, she has no parasites....but is soooo very thin. She has no obstruction (yes she has been to a vet....who says she is so young..he has no real advice).

I currently have her eating baby food chicken/jumpstart mix which she is licking of her nose and drinking water...her temps are correct...have posted in the gecko forum but no response has of yet...I know this is the cham forum...but ...Minya needs your help!

Ohhh, poor girl! I HATE to see animals like that!
What I would do is keep her in a smaller tank- Too much room can stress her out. Keep her hydrated, I would not try to give her alot of water at once, but rather give her small doses often, so you don't overload her system, same with food/vitamins. Give her somewhere private to rest, a rock to lay under or something and keep her temps steady. It's all in the hands of fate now, just do your best and we'll keep our hopes up there for you!!!

p.s. did you say how old she is? Or what her previous owners were doing or not doing for her? Sometimes it helps to know what their husbandry was so you can get an idea what you are up against!

Not too much is known about her.....she just seemed to continue a downward trend....I just started feeding her manually two days ago..and she does seem to be drinking and eating well. Will keep you posted....

Hey Oakes.....

Dang....that poor lil leo looks pretty banged up...his tail looks it should be on a young anole, not a leo....

Well i agree with feenie. the cage should be smaller then usuall (try 5 gallons) and should have a cloth over the top of it so it wont be stressed by the traffic of people....Manual feedings are never fun.....thats great that he is drinking though....there is some hope then...

I myself have worked with rescues....3 Leos and 1 Blue tongue skink....all of the rescues survived and were given new homes with RESPONSIBLE owners....all but one survived that is....the little tangerine leo i got about 1 month ago....real shame....

All we can do is pray and hope that he gets better.....

Good luck....lord nows ya need it!

Thanx for all the good wishes!

In the post on the gecko forum you mention her stomach...do you mean the dark mark?

Is the feces solid or runny? Smelly?

Be careful with your hygiene in case its crypto. Did they test for that?

She(?) looks like a Chinese Cave Gecko. I just think so because of the halo at the base of her head..... What does everyone else think??

I think that your thought process is interesting, but im pretty dang sure its a leo...young ones have dark colors....it could be a cave gecko, but they arent cheap so i doubt some noob totally got one then let it get that bad and wasted the $100 he spent on it.....

Ask your vet red oakes.....

Oh and pollies are rollie pollies....i attached a pick....go crazy
