Varying the Diet...

HerperHelmz Jun 12, 2006 06:32 PM

What do you guys think about giving kings something other than mice every once in a while?

I used to keep pretty much only snake eaters... And am left with a good amount of frozen snakes due to the fact my 2 snake eaters don't want them lol... What good are they? 1 is gravid, so I hope she'll start eating some after she lays. The other has been in captivity for a year and wants nothing to do with f/t snakes.

Anyways, no need to waste good food right?

I have a 05 amel speckled king that would probably hop at some snakes just as it does mice. I understand a con to this would be parasites... Which is the most common "excuse" for not using snakes as food. But parasites can be in the mice you feed your snakes as well, so no matter what it seems you're taking a risk.

So what do you all think... Is it good to have a varied diet for them? Maybe 1 prey item other than mice once a month?
