?? about gravid collareds

latex_heart Aug 01, 2003 01:12 AM

i know that females get some orange when gravid and they can get it almost overnight (i think this is correct). but what i was wondering is after they lay eggs do they lose the orange just as fast as they got it or what? there is a female at petsmart i was looking at that had alot of orange but she was really skinny. so if i got her would she have eggs or is there a good chance she already had them.

a clutch of eggs. They can become gravid soon after laying IF they mate again. Or sometimes just lay infertile eggs, soon after laying first clutch. So yes the color does remain for awhile, then slowly fades away if she is not gravid. I have a female C. Vestiguim that layed over a month ago, but yet the orange (nuptial blush it's called) is still visible. She may be gravid again , not sure yet, but soon it will become apparent if she is. The female you are looking at if she is very skinny probably had layed eggs. She needs some building back up, good food, calcuim, care, until shes put her weight on again. You may notice her color begining to fade as the days go by. Eve
