Very sick beardie - HELP please

SaleneBeardie Jun 12, 2006 10:39 PM

I have a year and a half old beardie that has battled with illness all her life (that's what I get for getting her from a pet store and not a breeder). About six months ago she was treated for intestinal parasites and was cured. Although, today she has become very very ill. She is not displaying any of the same syptoms as she was when she had the parasites. Now she is very very tired. She has had her eyes closed all day. She hasn't eaten since yesterday. When I pick her up she is very limp. I thought that she might be impacted, but when I pick her up, I don't feel anything in her belly. I gave her a warm bath at which point she started opening her mouth and not closing it. Her breathing is labored. I am very very worried about her. All these symptoms seemed to have just appeared overnight. Can someone advise as to anything I may be able to do? I don't think she has much time left. It's too late tonite to bring her to a vet and I hope she makes it to the morning. I have 2 other beardies in the 75 gallon tank with her and they have never had a health problem. The temps on the hot side are 90-105 F. The cool side is around 75-80 F. I have 3 basking points. The substrate is play sand. Can anyone please help?

there isnt much anyone can diagnose without seeing her and knowing all of whats going on. my guess is parasites are still in her, she oould be compacted, and could be experiencing kidney failure. same happened to my first male a few yrs ago. he was treated for parasites, was ok, then died suddenly of kidney failure.

if she makes it to morning rush her to a vet asap.

hope all works out good luck

Thank you for your replies. I'm sad to say that she didn't make it to morning. She passed some time in the middle of the night. I will keep an eye on the other two to make sure they have not been effected.

So sorry to hear that you lost her. Its not easy to lose a pet....especially at such a young age.

In the interest of the others...it might be a good idea to have an autopsy done on her to see why she died. You wouldn't want it to be something that the others could have caught. You mentioned that she had parasites before...was she in the cage with the others when she had them If so, the others could have picked them up too.

One other thought...are they all females? She couldn't have been gravid (pregnant) could she?
