Burm enclosure decor?

kilhd Jun 13, 2006 03:41 AM

Hi guys.. I wanted to make my burm's new home look more natural with some fake logs/plants/stones etc.. I have not one creative bone in my body when it comes to recreating a natural looking habitat but I bought a few fake plants to start with, how do you guys hang them securely? Also where do you guys buy cage furniture for a burmese? Most shops only sell branches/logs/hides/etc to fit nothing bigger than say a ball python? So you guys that have done this, please any tips would help, and pics for ideas! Please post, thanks!

This isnt what your looking for but I went "behind the scenes" at the zoo where my friend worked last summer and they had a big snake (think large boa) with wooden crates .
They were like pilled up like a hill the snake was ontop of them. You could use that or something like that maybe stack two piles and put a wooden plank between them lots possibilities .Beats dragging a tree into your house lol.

could take untreated 4"x4"s, router the corners, cut a couple at different lengths, make like a ladder like thingy, give the big guy something to climb on.

Thanks for replies.. but I really wanted something more natural looking. These are good ideas but a bit off from what I was hoping for.
When you open the cage/habitat forum there is a pic of an albino burm, or retic (hard to tell since its so small) with loads of stuff, I don't want to get quite that crazy with it but stuff similar to that, but where do you get that type of wood big enough for an adult burm?

Well how much room do you have to play with?? We talking turning your entire basement into an enclosure or what here?? I can do some mean carving with some 4X4's, make it look just like grapevine, takes some time to do, but the out come, well worth it, althought I think you said you don't have a creative bone in your body, so um, yeah... not sure there brother...

I will have a 10'x30"x30" enclosure when complete. Right now I capped off half until he gets a bit bigger, and I completely finish the second half of the enclosure. (So for the time he is in 5'x30" Another thing though how do you "hang" these plants securely?

Here are some pics of my enclosure so far.

Well, obviously your room is at a premium then, ( the guys enclosure in that picture you attatched is using an entire room for his enclosure so have plenty of room to play with ) You could do what I plan on doing for my cage, I plan on using "eye" bolts, anchored to the sides, then screwing hooks into the "furniture" then clipping the hooks onto the eye bolts, seen it done on some other enclosures... seemed to work ok...

You might want to take a ride to the zoo or look at web sites of zoo enclosures to get an idea . They mostly use large wooden logs if your good at making things large fake rocks like hollow types with hide areas ,etc.

I set up my rosy boa in a 30 gallon long natural looking set up with fake plastic cactus with hole in them as hide areas and plastic box buried in sand with just hole in top as underground borrows.
He went from the nicest most friendly rosy boa to a mean "killer" .I am not sure if its the set up but he became that way like a week after the new set up . Before he would take thawed hoppers with gusto he now takes them with firece gusto he attacks them coils right away (didnt before) and just a "tougher" snake . I guess thats why I suggested the non natural style set up I saw the boas in .

Probably the easiest way to spruce up an enclosure ot make it look nice is adding a tropical background. Recently I sold a couple cage with tropical background to a bredder that keeps giant boids. He like them and I'm actually building him an 8' cage with a nice background.

I wish I knew how to attach a pic or I would.
