Cave Gekco info

redoaksblues Jun 13, 2006 11:37 AM

Hello, I received a rescue Leopard gecko.....that is now very thin and frail..only to find out she is a cave gecko.....can anyone shed some light on them? I have changed her tank to 80-85 temps....made it darker, adn am getting wax worms and phoenix worms for her. I have been hand feeding (drop of chicken baby food with jumpstart mixed in on her nose) which she is eating....

Any more I can do?

Thanx in advance

Wow -- that animal is seriously depleted. There isn't much you can do right now save for supportive care -- try and get it to eat and get it hydrated. Then you need to try and determine what other health issues may be present. At that stage though it may be too far gone to recover. Just be patient and persistant. If you have a good herp vet around it may pay to get it to him/her for an evaluation. Hopefully the organs are not shot at this stage.

Good luck.

Unless you talked to someone who really knows their geckos.. I am still going to say that is a juvi leopard gecko - not a cave gecko (Goniurosaurus)....kinda hard to tell from the pic though...
If you still think it is a cave gekco though.. cool it even more. They like room temp (low to mid 60s at night and mid 70s durring the day) and humid.
Good luck.. I would probably just put it down if I were in your shoes..... a bummer....

Sorry to hear that.

You can only do your best with animals in such a depleted state. I would have to say that her organs were pretty much shut down and she was pretty much just walking dead when you got her.

At least you tried to make her comfortable and she did not die in the whatever place got her in that condition in the first place.
