Just got the pics back of the snakes caught two weeks ago, along with a few photos of an '04 male caught 5 miles from that site as a neonate in 9/04. Check out the variation in colors in snakes caught under the same piece of a/c. The red female was opaque in the pics, but shed yesterday. Her colors are amazing! Cut and past link below:

Very cool, I have only seen one of those in person once..... They're a little like dark Thayeri. Neat Tom Stevens

Funny you mention that Tom. I thought the same. It is an exciting project...locality specific with a mix of different genetics for red, green, and brown snakes. I'm excited to see how it turns out. The red one in the pics was just going opaque. Her colors are much lighter with more contrast since she has shed.

Thanks!

Hey Mark,
Those moles are outstanding! This was the first red one I've ever found in the field. I really thought it was a corn when I first lifted the tile.

Thanks!

Michael

I remember you saying that they are both gravid. I will be sure to remind you to post pic's of the clutches. I guess they should be along now any day, huh?

heh heh heh.

The red one shed three days ago and is sitting in the egg box as we speak. The green one is opaque. I put them both back in with the male I caught from the same site to make sure that I wasn't just feeling follicles.

The green one looks like she is about to burst. The red one either has a smaller clutch, smaller eggs, or unfertilized eggs.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks!

Michael
