Need to fatten gecko

atomicjade Jun 13, 2006 04:12 PM

Hello, my boyfriends leopard gecko has been having trouble keeping on weight. He is commonly fed dusted crickets and mealworms, we thought about trying to feed him a pinky mouse to add more weight to him. Does anybody have any other advice or comments? Also, his temperament is the same.

Thanks!

Ontop of offering new foods (try superworms, waxworms, butterworms, pinkies, etc) make sure to check your setup. Leos that are stressed due to improper or fluctuating temps and/or a lack of secure hiding places often show problems with their appetites and weight gains. If your setup seems good and he still doesn't gain weight despite a healthy appetite, he may have a parasitic infection. My first leo Beanie had a hard time gaining weight until I took her to the vet and we found a nematode infestation in her stomach. After that cleared up, she gained weight like a champ.

Good luck!
