How Long Do Corn Snakes Live?

Paradon Jun 13, 2006 04:31 PM

How long do corn snakes live? I've read the average live span is 10 years, and I read from another site which says 10-15 years. Does anybody with firsthand experience know how long they live? I just bought one on Sunday! What a pretty little snake it is! And I'm new to corn snake, but I do have a ball python that is about 3 years old, which I've own for about 3 years.

twenty years average....less with breeding.......

I've had them die in 8 .........6....some die at a few months for no visable reasons........

I have a 16 year old here....a friend has one maybe 18..

I had a corn and gave it to my brother -in-law....it lived 24 years........I put it in with a female okeetee (he was too,and 22 at the time I think?) to get new "oldtime" Okee blood.............she was 4 or 6 I forget (think6).............she died before breeding........LOL

......take care of them and 15 is no sweat.,........

My male Creamsicle "Mr. T" lived 16 years. He grew to be a hefty 6 feet 2 inches. He died of compilcations due to liver failure.
He lived a long and good snake life, and his babies are making babies. My understanding is that 10 to 15 is usual, while 20 is like a 100 human.

Here's a couple pics of Mr. T from this year.

I guess both are right.

Average lifespan in the wild is 10 years and 15 years in captivity is pretty normal these days (there's less disease and no predators, plus improving captive husbandry with more books/access to info via the Internet).

I'd consider 20 to be a good age in captivity and over 20 to be exceptional, although I have seen the odd report of 30 year olds. This is a long-term hobby alright.

I have a 19 year old male. He has cataracts & is a picky feeder now, but was still actively seeking female company this spring.

Also have a couple of 16 year olds who are showing no signs of age as yet.
