My female Ornate box turtle, Queenie, who I posted about in the Farm Machinery Injury thread, really surprised me with her attitude today. After her bath/house cleaning/medication session, I set her down on the bathroom floor so she could dry off before I medicated her again, expecting her to do the usual sitting-in-a-corner routine. She headed for the corner first as always, because she has always been quite defensive and testy, but after being there for a minute or two, she turned around and started looking at me. Then, she kept her eye on me, and cruised right by in front of me and out the bathroom door. I had to laugh, because she just walked right out like she owned the place! So, I started following her around, and she just walked around the room examining things. She didn't care in the least that I was following right behind her, and started cruising down the hallway, picking up the pace a little. At the end of the hallway, she found a major prize.....the cricket box! She started pushing the box around, so I gave her 5 adult crickets which she grabbed right off of the egg carton pieces that I was holding for her. After that, I guided her all the way back down the hallway and to her own tank, where she ate a handfull of lettuce(a quick snack)and some canned silkworms. I swear the turtle must be completely hollow inside! lol It just amazed me how comfortable around me she has decided to be after only being in captivity for around three weeks, and how she seems to be learning things so quickly. I knew box turtles were clever, but she is a very surprising creature. I just thought I would talk about it here, because there's no better place for a story like that to be appreciated!

The way they behave just cracks me up sometimes.
