Crested "bathroom" question...

MdngtRain Jun 14, 2006 09:03 AM

I think I have read this here before, but can't find the thread anymore... I seem to scare the crap out of my female creasted (literally) every time I handle her. Should I just stop? I mean, I know for sure she's eating (tho I can see the missing food also) & I know she's well hydrated. But is the stress of being handled (not even all that often, maybe once every week or so) going to be too much if she reacts by pooping on me every time? should I try to handle her more often to get her more used to it? Or is this just her, and she'll never outgrow her "pooping on handler" phase? LOL!

I think that you need to handle her more than once a week. It seems that if I go a couple days without picking mine up he becomes unfamiliar with me or something and gets scared easier. When I pick him up every day he tends to recognize that I won't hurt him and is much calmer. Hope this helps

I have a theory that they poop because they are in contact with our warm hands, kind of like being in warm water makes us want to pee. I have a favorite male who is as tame as can be, and he ALWAYS poops on me regardless of how many times a week I handle him. I just come prepared with a damp paper towel and try to aim him into it when I sense that he's about to let loose! I had him outside with me one beautiful day, and I just managed to hold him way out in front of me when he went.
