parasite question

mindlessvw Jun 14, 2006 09:14 AM

My beardie had pin worms that were treated through the vet but when he poops i can see little white specks that seem like they are moving. I saw them also when he got a bath and went in there. I took another sample to the vet and they said there weren't any...Anybody have any ideas whats going on? He is going to be taken to another vet in the off chance his vet is missing something. Has anyone else experienced this or have any other sugggestions?

Hi there!

In general, parasites are cyclicle. You can see them one day in a fecal sample, the next you may not, so when the VET sayd they don't see any the second time around this does not surprise me, BUT can be missed by an untrained person as well. You also seeing the worms in the stool after being dewormed is how MOST dewormers will work. Dewormers will destroy parasites internally, but you can see worms basically being "Flushed" ( what I call it)out of thier systems when it is doing its medicinal thing. Now did the Vet give you another dose to give to your dragon to repeat in 3 weeks?.. If not they should of. One dose of a deworming if you have a large enough parasite count will not do the trick. Try to get another round of it to repeat yourself if you can. Hope this helps!

They did not give me another round so i will certainly do that...they did not see them in two samples but i will take him to another vet just to be sure...you gotta feel sorry for them when they are sick...would parazap work or shoudl i get the same prescription again? Thanks for ya'lls help

parazap will work for this. i use parazap on all my dragons versus buying the expensive perscription drugs from the vet. and parazap has worked better in my cases. you can get parazap plus other meds through www.beautifuldragons.com i prefer getting through them because a portion of the money you spend goes back into their rescue program.

good luck
