Not being heavily involved in kingsnakes (I have a pair of Cal kings and a pair of Splendida), I was please to get 5 viable Desert kingsnake eggs from a first time breeding. They started pipping on Monday. Tuesday morning I swore I saw two heads peeking out of one egg at me, but I chalked it up to poor eyesight. The other 4 snakes were already out as of last night. Sure enough, after a little coaxing this morning the last holdouts came out. Twins! Six snakes from five eggs is a welcome surprise.

That's a really cool shot... i was doing some wishful thinking about twins/two headed snakes last night... i got 9 of the longest Brooksi eggs i've ever seen incubating, hence the reason for my thoughts...

again cool shot, post pix of the two when they are both out it'd be cool if they are 100% identical. (i saw twin Hondurans with different head patterns... weird...?)

Yes - it would be cool if they were identical.

I've heard that with cats, identical DNA (clones) can result in different fur coloring, that where the color blotches etc. occur is only partially controlled by genetics.

It would be interesting to know if the same is true in snakes.

Also, supposedly when identical twins happen, the egg splits but there is still some genetic differences between the too. That's what my biology teacher in high school said anyway. He said a good lab tech will find DNA differences in identical twins, though they are minor,

Nice. How long is your female? I have one that's about 3-feet, but she has not shown any signs of being gravid.

Tim... my female is not much over 30". I cooled them in a rather uncontrolled manner (probably more accurate with a wild situation though)... I had a door in my house I live in Northern IL) that leaked cold air pretty bad so I put them up against it in the winter for about six weeks. After I brought them out and fed them up for a couple of weeks I put them together and they locked right away. It was a small clutch, even for a first one, right?

It went pretty smoothly.. there were 6 eggs laid, one was infertile, but I ended up getting my six snakes after all!
