GTP hasn't eaten in a month

klik Jun 14, 2006 02:03 PM

My friend has a 3 year old male GTP who hasn't eaten in a month. He has had the snake for a little over a year now and it has never missed a meal. He is feeding it medium sized rats. The enclosure it is in measure 36"Dx24"Wx26"H. The hot side of the enclosure is 86F with the cool side being in the upper 70s. He isn't close to shed either. The humidity is kept in the high 70s lower 80s. Anyone have any ideas? The snake doesn't have any interests in mice either. Thanks for any help.

He's probably full. lol. I feed most of my adult males about once every 2-4 weeks. They just don't require the food intake that reproductive or growing females need. The largest food item I feed males would be a small rat, but I've recently switched from rats to large mice. He's probably just needing a break. He'll come around eventually. Good luck.

Do male GTP's go off food for breeding season as other species do? It could be that as well.

Its kinda late in the season for that, but I guess if the room was cooled all the time, maybe...

I think its just a chondro being a chondro... I have males that only eat every 2 months... Once they eat I can feed them all day long, but if that dont want it, you can forget it...

I wish your friend the best of luck...
