Eggs Question

APLAXAR Jun 14, 2006 02:20 PM

hey all,

the eggs have been in the incuator for two weeks now, two of the 18 are definatly bad, and a few are shrivling, the temps are 84-85 and the humidity is about 95 on average, i have candled them all and all aprear to have nice veins going on the inside, i decided to do a layer of sphagnum over the eggs thinking this might help in distibution of the humidity. my question is how do i correct this shrivling of the eggs, any and all help is much appreciated

I hada couple eggs that started to collapse even with high humidity. i just put moist moss on top. The eggs absorbed the water and reformed great. good luck

What i do is take a clean paper towel, wet it and lay it directly on top of the "shriviling" eggs. if the eggs are good you will see an improvment in several hours and they are usually looking 100% perfect within 24 to 48 hours, depending on how dry they are ... then i just remove the paper and add a little water to my vermiculite mixture...

good luck.. ~ Mike Russo

I gotta agree with Mike and the others that say you need more humidity. But keep in mind that it does take a day or two for eggs to "bounce back." You can kill an egg by overhydrating it, so have patience in getting them back to normal.

was to use moist sphagnum moss for a layer on top. the misting idea made me nervouse and the paper towel made me think that the eggs might not be able to breath so i though the sphagnum would be a good middle ground, they are showing improvement, but not quite there yet the moss is still on top so we wil see what happens, i need to find a smaller humidity guage the digital i have now isnt in the egg container it is sitting outside of it, its just too big

thanks all
