Feeding Recently Wild Caught Westerns

tslabaugh Jun 14, 2006 02:25 PM

I am fixing to obtain a couple of adult WC western hognose. I am wanting some advice to someone who has fed wild caught westerns. I have fed many other wild caughts, just not western hognose. Should I just try trial and error starting with F/T mice, then live mice, then trying a scented F/T, then a scented live mouse if nothing else works? What have you guys got to work with wild caughts? Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance.

Try f/t mice first for a few times with about a week in between so you won't stress them out. Key leave them alone for a little bit. If that doesn't them try pre-killed then scented.

Good luck,

All the WC westerns I have ever dealt with have taken mice. Small individuals may occasionally need them scented once or twice, but most don't. They simply take F/T mice of the appropriated size.

Well if you are going with WC (not sure why, CB is the way to go) Make sure you treat them for parasites, you could easily loose a snake to parasites if not treated.
