Q? for all Big Pythons Keepers

Atlas511 Jun 14, 2006 03:22 PM

I keep only Burms and Retics, my biggest is around 15ft and the smalllest being 5-6ft. In beetween the both species i noticed my retics urinate almost every other day opposed to my burms only one a week or even 10 days. I was just looking for some feedback and if any one else's collection is the same way.

Almost all the animals I keep now are Retics but I have kept many other snakes in the past including Scrubs, Balls, Carpets, and Chondros. It interesting because I have noticed that the Retics do urinate more often than other species, I also have observed them drinking much more often. But my Retics only urinate every four or five days compared to every other day. Do all your Retics urinate that often?

Yes, this is normal for retics, most especially when they are fed a lot and are digesting meals.

I have 15 retics, they don't all urinate that often, but definately weekly, one 17 footer pisses like a racehorce, he actual can completely saturate a 6 foot vision and stink up the whole house when he goes, he eats one xxlarge rodent pro rabbit every 2 weeks, he defacates like a horse also, I laugh and say to myself or out load "Now that's a pile of (bleep)" LOL

from the rescue stand point. i usually get the ones that are 12-20 ft and had nothing more than a half filled dog dish for a water source. They dont pee much when they first come here but the cages i have for my big guys has a kiddy pool for a water dish- they're like 7 bucks and they love it. I take peeing aobut every 10-15 days as a sign that they're happy and healthy. :D
i did have one that had blood in his pee- he had a kidney infection or something. he peed about every other 2 days but not very much at a time- but you wanna talk about stink!!!! oh man! that smells like a regurged rabbit that you didnt see for 3 days!!! (::gags a little:. now he pees 'regularly' and eats quite nicely and hes sweet as can be with the nice people that adopted him. :D

I hear you, my retics and burms do the samething. At first I though it was the food, my larger snakes eat pigs and my smaller snakes eat jumbo rats. I feed my 16ft female retic two 8lb pigs once a week and she urinates almost everyday which completely soaks a 6ft vision cage. Im lucky if she skips one day. Two of male retics (9-10ft range) get fed a 3lb pig every 2 weeks and they urinate about once every 4 days. My other 9ft male retic wont eat pigs so he eats a jumbo rat every week and only urinates about once a week. On the other hand my 2 female burms (9ft and 12ft) get fed a 4-6lb pig every week and they urinate about once a week. My 9ft male burm eats a 3lb pig every 2 weeks and urinates about once every 2 weeks. I have no sub adult retics but my my sub-adult burms get fed a jumbo rat every 5 days and urinate about every 5 days. Im not sure if Im right or wrong (does it really matter, their cages still have to be cleaned) but I’ve come to the conclusion that generally speaking, retics urinate more frequently than burms and that amount depends on what they are eating and how frequently.

Thank you guys for the input. not all my retic go that often. My big 15ft female 100% het albino goes every two or three days but she is fed more than the rest. My lavander female also goes every three days or so. My Female granite burm is on the same feeding schedual ans she only oes once a week or two. thanks again guys.

Actually this is very similar to something I've been meaning to bring up and get some input.

My sample size is pretty small, but I've observed that if I change the water in my burm cages every day and they are eating well, they tend to urinate every couple of days. My working hypothesis is that they tend to urinate in their bowls just enough that we can't tell but they stop drinking. So then they end up not drinking or drinking as little as possible until we get around to cleaning, which is usually the next time they urinate, which is less often because they're not drinking enough. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I nuts? (Don't answer that).
